The surprise - Panorama with Aurora

You never know, which photos will ‘hit the ceiling’. Most of the time you can see beautiful moments and you simply charge your batteries (the brain appreciates the beauties). And you just hope your camera could record the feelings you felt, which feeling might can be transferred to the viewers.
So, back to the story – on that Tuesday night. The carpark was nearly empty at Cape Schanck. I knew, what I am looked for and headed to the steps which lead to the Pulpit Rock. I have to tell you I am not that kind of guy who talks with anyone, I mean with strangers. So, when I am going to shot alone (not with the photo excursion group) I try to focus on the task. The life is short, and some moments just can disappear, so I don’t really chit-chat too much. And as I said, only people been there, one family with kids and one another folk. I am not sure why I started the chat (as I started), but on the other hand we needed to wait for the Lady (Aurora) as she didn’t show too much that time of the night.
So, we just waited and talked. About nice places through the lens of the photographers. And took shots every 5 mins, or so. The night was calm, no wind. And the dance started. I am still looking for ‘my style’, but one type of photography I really enjoy is the landscape photography and specially the creation of panoramas. That type of photos gives you the ‘freedom’ feeling that you can see till the horizon and see the big part of the sky with its colours, the clouds and the stars. You just standing there and breath the fresh smell of the ocean – priceless as you can imagine.
I took couple of photos from the far left to the far right, focusing on having overlaps to be able to merge them later. The Milky Way just build a bridge above me. It was nearly fully dark as the Moon was on honeymoon. ??? – what a bad joke. The photo covered around 270 degrees, so in the real life you can’t see as much from any one point, you have to turn your head to enjoy the view.
I knew already that night will be special, and I must tell you I was nearly 100% satisfied with the result. I merged 12 photos, which won’t be a big challenge these days, but somehow the lighthouse missed from the final result. And the software I used just mentioned that couldn’t merge all photos. Bravo! Just the main component is missing… The whole last two weeks were about to spend more and more time to understand how this merge function is working in theory and practically, which tool is better than another one, and which tool offers functionality for adjustment. I used freeware applications, lightroom and photoshop and finally the panorama photo completed. I know, it is not too humble, but I love it! Till now, this photo gave me the biggest opportunity to learn how can edit nightscape. I hope you like it too…
