Why Lazy Kangaroos? The Story Behind Our Quirkiest 2027 Wall Calendar

Every product I design starts with a question: will anyone actually want this?

It sounds simple, but as a photographer and store owner, it's the question that keeps me up at night. You look at search volumes, you study trends, you try to find that sweet spot between enough demand and not too much competition. High search volume sounds great — until you realise you're competing with a thousand other sellers doing the exact same thing.

So sometimes, you go the other way. You look for the unexpected. The niche. The thing that makes someone stop scrolling and think: that's exactly what I was looking for, I just didn't know it yet.

That's how the Lazy Kangaroos 2027 Wall Calendar was born.

It Started at Ballarat Wildlife Park

A visit to Ballarat Wildlife Park will do things to you. Specifically, it will make you realise that kangaroos — Australia's most iconic animal, the one on our coat of arms, the symbol of speed and strength — are, in fact, profoundly, unapologetically lazy.

They were flopped on the grass. Sprawled in the shade. Barely lifting an ear when I walked past with my camera. And they were magnificent.

I started photographing them and couldn't stop laughing. There's something deeply relatable about a kangaroo that has clearly decided today is not the day for effort. They looked like they'd read the memo and filed it under "not my problem."

I knew immediately: this had to be a calendar.

10th August — National Lazy Day

Here's the thing that sealed it. Did you know that 10th August is National Lazy Day? It's an actual thing — a day dedicated to doing as little as possible, guilt-free. No serious work. No ambitious plans. Just existing, comfortably, at your own pace.

Sound familiar? The kangaroos at Ballarat had been celebrating National Lazy Day every single day of the year.

For a funny gift, a Secret Santa pick, or just something to make a mate laugh every time they glance at the wall — a calendar full of gloriously lazy kangaroos feels like the perfect tribute to that energy.

The Gift Nobody Knew They Needed

The best gifts aren't always the most obvious ones. Anyone can buy a generic calendar. But a personalised wall calendar featuring Australia's most relaxed marsupials, customised with the recipient's preferred start month, language, and public holidays? That's a gift with personality.

It works for the friend who's always "five more minutes." The colleague who treats Monday mornings as a personal affront. The family member who has elevated napping to an art form. Or honestly, anyone who just appreciates a good laugh on the wall.

A Note on the Photography

Every image in this calendar was captured in natural settings — no staging, no tricks. Just kangaroos being their most authentic, horizontal selves. The photography is premium quality, printed sharp and vivid, because even lazy things deserve to look beautiful.

Available in A4, A3, Letter, and Ledger sizes. Personalised to order. Shipped worldwide.

So — what do you think? Is the Lazy Kangaroos calendar the quirky gift idea you didn't know you needed? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
